John Deere SCR delete (AdBlue removal) – that is what our article is about! Why do you need John Deere SCR delete, what are the benefits and how we do it?

Why is John Deere using Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) for Final Tier 4/Stage IV?

As you should know, Final Tier 4 (Stage IV) engine standards are the strictest EPA emissions requirement and they concern all off-highway (off-road) vehicles. Those standards regulate the amount of black soot, particulate matter and nitrogen oxides (NOx) that are emitted into the atmosphere from a vehicle.

Based on the Final Tier 4 requirements, there are three major technologies used for exhaust after-treatment – Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR).

Before the more stringent NOx emission levels, John Deere has been achieving the standards with its cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) technology and diesel fuel. After the requirement for an additional 80% reduction in NOx, John Deere continued to use its cooled EGR technology but in a combination with a new exhaust after-treatment system called SCR technology to meet all Final Tier 4 (Stage IV) requirements.

John Deere’s SCR solution is different from the other engine manufacturers’ solutions because John Deere uses both EGR and SCR technologies. That allows fluid economy – less DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) needed, smaller DEF tanks and extended DEF filter service intervals.

What is AdBlue / SCR in John Deere vehicles and how does it work?

The selective catalytic reduction (SCR) is a process of controlling and reducing NOx emissions.

Unfortunately, the transformation of nitrogen oxides (NOx) into harmless substances (just nitrogen) is not an easy process. For this purpose, they need a reduction in order the oxygen to be released.

The reduction is possible by combining the exhaust gases with ammonia (urea or DEF – diesel emissions fluid). Here comes the AdBlue liquid agent. It is injected into the exhaust after-treatment system upstream before the SCR catalyst filter on diesel vehicles.

The AdBlue fluid combines urea and demineralized water. That generates a chemical reaction inside the SCR system and turns the NOx into water and nitrogen (cleaner emissions).

One of the main advantages of the use of SCR is that the engine can meet emissions standards and requirements with less use of EGR – so these engines run cooler. But the SCR system has also many disadvantages and can cause many issues! That’s why the best solution is John Deere SCR delete / AdBlue removal!

Why do you need John Deere SCR delete?

The SCR after-treatment system is very problematic because of the many electronic sensors, pumps and modules that often fail.

Maybe the most serious disadvantage with the John Deere SCR components is that it goes with extremely high repair costs. SCR technology parts usually block, corrode and the repairing process is expensive…

Not only that but the SCR system needs a large amount of AdBlue / DEF and you will have to refuel the tanks regularly. DEF consumption can range from 3% to 6% of your John Deere diesel fuel consumption. Around 1 gallon of DEF is required for 20 gallons of diesel fuel.

Because of these problems, many John Deere owners and operators choose John Deere SCR delete / AdBlue off (removal / disable)!

John Deere SCR Delete / Adblue off

Our John Deere SCR delete (SCR off / SCR removal / Adblue off / DEF off) service is done 100% online by reprogramming the ECU (electronic control unit) of your John Deere machine. We will read out the ECU data of your vehicle via the diagnostic port, so our John Deere SCR delete solution is a non-invasive procedure – we will not open the ECU physically.

Effective Tuning’s online remapping and John Deere SCR delete services completely stop the consumption of AdBlue/DEF, allow the DEF-pump to be unplugged and the SCR components do not occur problems anymore.

In addition, you do not have to worry about the fault codes after the tuning process – our John Deere SCR delete solution will disable the dashboard lights and warning messages.

What are the advantages of our John Deere SCR Delete (AdBlue removal) via online ECU remapping?

Better performance
